From Rainy Days to An eventual saturationあめふりから濡れた地面はやがて水たまりに変わるまで
Following a year after A gradual thaw, CASE TOKYO presents its second exhibition of works by Japanese photographer Toshiya Murakoshi. This second exhibition comprises 13 artworks as well as Murakoshi’s 11 photobooks, various catalogues and collaborations.
In 2006, Tokyo-based Toshiya Murakoshi began to focus on his home city of Sukagawa in Fukushima Prefecture as the subject of his photography. In the quiet, powerful landscapes surrounding his birth town, Murakoshi searches for and traces his own memories and past experiences. The exhibition at Case Tokyo will be a perfect occasion to see the photographic oeuvre of Murakoshi, who explains his motivation for photographing his hometown thusly: “I am pursuing whatever is left at the end, after I scrape off all and everything I had been born with.”

Toshiya MURAKOSHI 村越としや
Toshiya Murakoshi was born in Sukagawa in Fukushima Prefecture in 1980. In 2003, Murakoshi graduated from Nippon Photography Institute. In 2009, Murakoshi established the TAP gallery in Kiyosumi-shirakawa (Tokyo). Murakoshi is the recipient of the 2011 Photographic Society of Japan Newcomer’s Award and the 2015 Sagamihara Photograph New Face Incentive Award. His artistic works form part of the collections of the National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
