The legendary photo-dojinshi (self-published zine) Chihei, first published between 1972 and 1977, saw a revival in 2018 with issue 11.
While Chihei 11 (available from Case Publishing) chose a geographical limitation—the city of Osaka—for its seven participating photographers, Chihei 12 took a different approach.
With the abdication of emperor Akihito on April 30, 2019, and the ascension of the emperor Naruhito on May 1, 2019, Japan entered into a new age. All the photographs in Chihei 12 were taken during these two historical days and capture the reality of Japan in the year 2019 in all its facets.
